Puglia is a food lover’s paradise, so how about cooking in Puglia? While you are on holiday in Puglia you will undoubtedly experience the wonderful Pugliese cuisine, whether it’s in a pizzeria, a trattoria or a ristorante.
Imagine learning to cook the traditional Pugliese recipes while you are on holiday in Puglia. Puglia cooking is a home-based cuisine, created by women cooking at home, without rules and regulations. Widely known as “cucina povera”, which literally translates as the “poor kitchen”, it is now generally taken to mean simple, but good cooking. It is simply based on what’s in the larder, in the garden, available in the market, stretched to accommodate those who turn up unexpectedly.
You can cook with local Mums, preparing the real Puglia dishes of the peasant cooking style. At the end of your lesson, you will have lunch, eating the dishes you have prepared, paired with great local wines. The cooking classes are held at the Cook in Puglia school, and we have joined in on several delightful occasions, a morning of fun and learning about the local dishes from local people who are passionate about traditional cooking. You can read more about it here and discover the founder of the Cook in Puglia school, Ylenia Sambati’s first cookbook.
Alternatively, you can enjoy a private half-day cookery class right in your villa with your family and friends. The cook and wine expert will bring everything needed for an incredible culinary experience and serve a delicious meal that you will have cooked together, paired with some great local wines. We can arrange this fabulous cooking and eating experience for guests at one of our two Puglia Holiday Villas.
To avoid disappointment we recommend that you book your cookery class in advance of your holiday If you are booking a holiday at Casa Mare or Villa Rosa, our two holiday villas in the Salento, we will make all the arrangements for you. Alternatively, you can contact Cook in Puglia direct.
